SimpleUpdates grew out of Hosford Web Service, which Darryl Hosford started in 1995 to build websites for nonprofits and service-minded businesses. As the content management system was built from the ground up, it became SimpleUpdates, and SimpleUpdates has been serving businesses and ministries since 2005.
We've watched the web go through every trend it's had since: template marketplaces, page builders, the plugin era, and now this one. What hasn't changed is who we build for: the plumber, the church, the therapist, the shop on Main Street. People with a business to run and no interest in becoming webmasters.
People didn't get stuck on the software. They got stuck on the blank page.
We kept watching the same thing happen. Someone would sign up, pick a design, love it, and then stop cold at the blank page. Not because the software was hard, but because writing about your own business is hard.
So we built something that starts you off. You answer questions about what you do, and you get pages with real words on them. From there it's editing, and editing is the easy part.
The people who build it answer the phone.
In 2024 SimpleUpdates moved to new ownership to carry on the service our customers trust and take it further.
A few things we won't change.
- A website should say what your business actually does, in your words.
- You shouldn't need a developer to change a sentence.
- The people who build the software should be the people who answer the phone.
- If a cheaper plan would serve you better, we'll tell you.
